Newton Grove was first incorporated in 1879 as the New Town at the Grove for the oak grove that stood at the crossroads, then incorporated again in 1935 as Newton Grove. The town’s name combines a reference to Sir Isaac Newton with the grove of trees that anchored the original settlement.
The crossroads that Newton Grove was built around predates the Civil War. Bentonville Battlefield, the site of the last major Confederate offensive of the war, sits a short drive northwest of Newton Grove and brings history visitors through the area year-round.
